Veere

The Municipality of Veere has approximately 22,000 inhabitants. The artificial island Neeltje Jans, part of the Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier, is forms part of the municipality's territory. The local government offices are in the seaside resort of Domburg.

The municipality is situated on the Walcheren peninsula and consists of the following places. First of all, there is the idyllic historic town of Veere, after which the municipality has been named. Then there are the coastal villages of Vrouwenpolder, Oostkapelle, Domburg, Westkapelle and Zoutelande, all of which are on the Western Scheldt or the North Sea. Throughout the year, but especially in the summer months, they are visited by many tourists. Domburg has always been a well-known spa.

The villages of Aagtekerke, Biggekerke, Koudekerke, Gapinge, Grijpskerke, Meliskerke and Sorooskerke can be found in the central region. The area is used mainly for arable farming.

The municipality has a strong focus on coastal tourism; it has more than 200 camp sites, 52 hotels and some 3,400 self-catering houses.

It has several business parks, which are oriented towards the local rather than the regional market.
