Hulst

The Municipality of Hulst is the most southeastern part of Zeeland, close to the Belgian border.
The fortified town of Hulst is situated in the middle.  There are 14 villages in the expansive polder area, each of which has its own identity:  Clinge, Graauw, Heikant, Hengstdijk, Kapellebrug, Kloosterzande, Kuitaart, Lamswaarde, Nieuw Namen, Ossenisse, St. Jansteen, Terhole, Vogelwaarde and Walsoorden.  They are situated close to the sea wall, encircled by sea dykes or near green woods, and they are all surrounded by space and tranquillity. The municipality has approximately 28,000 inhabitants.

The town of Hulst, surrounded by ramparts, has a distinctly Flemish atmosphere. The many pubs with outdoor seating in the centre look out on monumental buildings, and of course the beautiful Hulst Basilica. The shops also open their doors on Sundays. Hulst always has a friendly atmosphere, which is also evident during the many activities that are organized in the town every year. Those activities often refer to the epic figure Reynaert the Fox, who continues to take a central place in Hulst.
